Carrying out a clean reinstall of FSX Gold Edition

Very few regular Flight Simulator players manage to escape the fatal software or hard disk crashes that occur with regular flying. I have therefore compiled a a step by step proceedure for a "clean" reinstall of FSX and have included some of the more popular Add-ons. It is imprtant to complete all the steps in the correct order to avoid conflicts and memory problems.

Firstly it is essential to remove all trace of any previously installed FSX by using the installation disk #1 to uninstall. Next I removed all associated programs via the Control Panel and then removed all the folders that had contained any files regarding FSX.

  • STEP BY STEP FSX DELUXE INSTALL

  • Now install FSX disk #1 and #2, then Acceleration

  • Next install FSX SDK. This must be installed in the correct order.
    • Browse to the SDK Folder on FSX Disc #1. Double click the setup.exe. Program installs.
    • Remove FSX Disk #1 and insert the Acceleration Disk
    • Browse to the SDK folder then browse to the SP1a folder
    • Double click the fsx_sdk_sp1.exe file. Program installs
    • Browse back to the SDK folder.
    • Double click the sdk.msi file. Program installs.

  • It is now necessary to edit the dll.xml file which is associated with FSX.
    • The Windows XP path is C:\Documnets and Settings\User(customer)\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml
    • The Windows 7 path is C:\Users\(name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml
  • Right click on the dll.xml file and select Open with then choose Notepad
  • There are three changes to be made. In each case the word True must be changed to False
  • Save and close the file.

  • In order to check the installation to this point, start FSX, choose FREE FLIGHT and then FLY NOW.
  • There should now be a drop down TOOLS menu at the top of the screen. Close FSX.

  • RECOMMENDED ADD-ONS (Some are needed in FS Economy)

  • Download, Register and Install FSUIPC4
  • Download and install FS Discover
  • Download and install MyTraffic 2010
  • Download and install Airport Design Editor
  • Install Joystick driver, Orbx Scenery, Add-on Scenery.

  • Run FSX --> FREE FLIGHT --> FLY NOW. FSUIPC4 and FSDiscover should be available in the Add-Ons menu.

  • Install FSE Client (Optional for FSE players)

  • Run Windows Updater

  • VERY IMPORTANT for Windows 7 64 bit users to avoid FSX crashes when using the menus

  • Download file from HERE.
  • Drop the UIAutomationCore.dll file into the FSX root folder
  • While your in the root FSX folder, hold down the shift key and right click, select "open command window here" from the list of options
  • Copy and paste this regsvr32 UIAutomationCore.dll into the Command Window
  • Press Enter
